The quarterbacks

Deshaun Watson was a godsend in his six starts with the Houston Texans in 2017. He appeared to become something the Texans have never truly had, a franchise quarterback. He quickly proved the team right in their decision to trade up and get him.

Watson threw for 1,699 yards and 19 touchdowns. He ran for 269 yards and two scores. If you expand those numbers across sixteen games, he was on pace for 4,259 passing yards, 48 touchdowns, 675 rushing yards, and five more touchdowns. That would’ve been one of the greatest fantasy seasons by a quarterback ever.

Watson had 8.3 yards per attempt and a 9.3% touchdown rate last year. That’s absolutely ridiculous numbers but, he’ll likely never match those again. It’s simply too historic. But, even if you drop it a little bit as a regression to the mean, Watson is still a top-five QB lock.

Quarterbacks that are as good as Watson through the air are excellent fantasy options. If you add in his dangerous skills as a rusher it’s game over. Taking Watson in the rounds two or three, maybe he’ll fall to four, should be a brainer.

If Watson gets hurt, there is no reason to add another Houston Texans quarterback. These backups won’t produce enough to warrant fantasy consideration. Fortunately, modern medicine has made the ACL injury seem minor, Watson should be just fine this season.
