The running backs

The Houston Texans originally signed Lamar Miller to be Arian Foster’s replacement. A workhorse running back who could come in and handle a lot of carries and rip off huge chunk gains. Unfortunately, it hasn’t quite panned out like that.

In 2016, Miller put up over 1,000 yards on the ground with only five touchdowns. Not too bad by fantasy standards but definitely not great. However, further investigation revealed a problem for the future, he averaged just four yards per attempt.

2017 saw Miller decline quite a bit. He only managed 55 yards a game to the tune of 888 total rushing yards. His touchdowns declined as well from five to three. The lone bright side was that he had the second-best receiving career, notching 327 yards and adding two more touchdowns.

Miller shed weight heading into the 2018 season after previously gaining weight to be a feature back. This weight loss should allow Miller to return to his more explosive self thus, increasing his fantasy football potential.

Miller’s value will likely be down after a poor 2017 but, taking a swing at him in the middle rounds could produce a starting running back with top-five potential at his position. My advice, take the gamble.

D’Onta Foreman is trending up in recent weeks but, he’ll likely begin the season on the PUP list. He should be worth a late-round flier and IR stash (if your league does that) until he comes back. He could push Miller for carries. Alfred Blue is back but, he likely won’t make a blip on the fantasy radar even as the Houston Texans number two.
