The Houston Texans’ defense remains one of the main strengths of the roster heading into 2025. The addition of Will Anderson with the third overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft has paid dividends and the decision to pair him with Danielle Hunter as a free agent signing last spring turned Houston into one of the most feared pass rushes in the league.
But while the Texans have high end talent in the front seven, they still need some depth. Houston took the first step towards achieving that goal as they made a surprising signing over Super Bowl weekend.
Texans Sign Kingsley Jonathan as a Depth Piece for 2025
The Texans agreed to terms with defensive end Kingsley Jonathan on Sunday, adding depth to their front seven. Jonathan was an undrafted free agent out of Syracuse in the 2022 draft and broke into the league with the Chicago Bears.

Jonathan joined the Buffalo Bills after appearing in five games in his rookie season and has been there since, appearing in 13 games in 2023 and one game last season.
Jonathan isn’t an impact signing but he’s one that will add depth to the Texans’ roster. While Anderson and Hunter will return, Derek Barnett and Mario Edwards Jr. are both free agents with Kurt Hinish as a restricted rights free agent. Dylan Horton is also on the roster as a fourth-round pick from the 2023 draft.
While any depth is good, Texans fans may be wondering when they’re going to add a receiver or a piece that can help their offense take a step forward under new offensive coordinator Nick Caley. For now, they’ll have to take things one step at a time and hope that more moves are coming this offseason.
