Texans Suddenly Gifted Perfect Trade Opportunity for All-Pro WR
By Joe Summers

The Houston Texans' offense felt like it fell off a cliff this season, falling from a top-12 unit in yards per play to ranking 19th (5.2), ultimately leading to offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik's firing.
There is plenty of blame to go around for the disappointing end to the season. C.J. Stroud suffered a bit of a sophomore slump, the offensive line couldn't hold up for long stretches, and the lack of wide receiver depth was exposed following injuries to both Nico Collins and Tank Dell.
This roster still has a strong foundation that should compete in the AFC for years to come, though it's clear improvements are necessary in key areas. Luckily, Houston was just gifted the perfect opportunity to trade for a former All-Pro WR, as the San Francisco 49ers are reportedly looking to move Deebo Samuel.

In what could be a wild offseason, a parting for Samuel and SF is not guaranteed, but it may make sense for all parties.

Texans Must Trade for 49ers WR Deebo Samuel to Bolster Offense
The Texans hired Los Angeles Rams assistant Nick Caley as their offensive coordinator. He comes from the Sean McVay coaching tree known for its creativity and ability to maximize the players on any given roster. Samuel's production dropped off this year but if anyone knows how to utilize him, it's someone who comes from the Rams and has played Samuel twice a season.
Houston's offense seemed stagnant at times with an inability to create easy yards. A lot of the blame falls on the offensive line, though Samuel's unique versatility helps mitigate some of those issues. You could just as easily design a deep crossing route for him as you could a screen pass, keeping defenses on their toes. Collins and Dell are excellent receivers, yet their skillsets could expand when coupled with someone like Samuel.

From a roster-building standpoint, Samuel is a perfect fit. Collins is healthy and one of the best receivers in the NFL, though Dell has to recover from a significant, devastating knee injury. Behind those two, Robert Woods was a disaster and John Metchie is more of a depth piece than a productive starter.
Whether it's Samuel or someone else in the draft or free agency, Houston needs to complement Stroud and Collins with more receivers. The Texans are almost ready to battle with the elite teams in the conference, but they can't take that next step without giving their quarterback more weapons.
Still only 29 years old, Samuel has enough good football left to be worth the risk this offseason.
