The Houston Texans have made the playoffs in both seasons under DeMeco Ryans. Despite that success, they have failed to make it past the Divisional Round.
This postseason, the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Texans 23-14. Shortly after that loss, Houston decided to fire offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik after two seasons with the organization. That move came as a bit of a surprise but the offense didn't have the same success in 2024.
They allowed the second most sacks in the NFL (52), meanwhile, C.J. Stroud's numbers dropped in multiple categories. Stroud finished with lower totals in completion percentage, passing yards, passing touchdowns, and passer rating, while his interceptions jumped from five in 2023 to 12 in 2024.
The #Texans are hiring #Rams TEs coach and pass game coordinator Nick Caley as their new OC, as CJ Stroud and the Houston offense get a new play-caller, per me and @TomPelissero.

Texans News: Nick Caley is Hired as Texans Offensive Coordinator
After interviewing multiple candidates, the Texans hired Rams tight ends coach and pass game coordinator Nick Caley to become their offensive coordinator.
Caley was considered one of the top offensive coordinator candidates this coaching cycle. The New York Jets had him as their No. 1 target to become their OC, but Caley decided he had no desire to join them.
Even last year, Caley shut down the Pats offensive coordinator job and went back to Los Angeles. Caley began his coaching career with the New England Patriots in 2015 before landing with the Rams in 2023.
Although he hasn't called plays before, he has learned from Sean McVay, who is one of the best playcallers in the league.
During an appearance on the The Athletic Football Show podcast, Robert Mays raved about Caley.
He said, "When you leave a conversation with Nick, it’s kind of like leaving a conversation with Sean McVay."

He added that Caley's energy is infectious and is something that is clear when speaking with him. The 42-year-old will get his opportunity to rebuild this offense that features Stroud, Joe Mixon, and Nico Collins on the team.
