The Houston Texans are just days away from adding a handful of new rookies to their roster via the 2025 NFL draft. The 2024 season saw the Texans win their second of back-to-back AFC South titles, and they will now turn to the incoming rookie class for help winning a third consecutive division crown.

An incoming crop of rookies means the Texans must free up some roster space to make room for the first-year prospects. Even though training camp isn't for another few months, Houston didn't waste any time opening up a roster spot by sending a recently signed offensive lineman packing on Monday.

Texans Release OG Tremayne Anchrum Jr. 3 Days Before NFL Draft

The Houston Chronicle's Jonathan M. Alexander is reporting that the Texans have cut offensive guard Tremayne Anchrum Jr. The veteran blocker's release comes exactly three months after Houston signed him to a future/reserve contract following the 2024 regular season.

Anchrum, 26, is a former 2020 Los Angeles Rams seventh-round pick who spent four seasons in L.A. before joining the Seattle Seahawks and New Orleans Saints' practice squads. The former Clemson Tiger joined the Texans' practice unit this past November, however, he didn't play a single game with the team.

Anchrum's departure is just the latest offseason change to hit Houston's offensive line. The Texans already said goodbye to Kendrick Green shortly after free agency began, while Laremy Tunsil and Kenyon Green were traded to the Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles, respectively.

Veteran OLs Cam Robinson and Laken Tomlinson have since been signed by the Texans, however, more additions could be on the way now that Anchrum has been kicked to the curb.

It's going to be interesting to see when Anchrum finds a new home. The veteran blocker should garner some attention based on experience alone, having appeared in 31 games (1 start) across his early NFL career. He also boasts championship experience after winning a Super Bowl with the Rams and two CFP National Championships with the Tigers.

With that in mind, it could be another few weeks before Anchrum is signed again. Teams will be busy signing undrafted free agents after the draft ends, meaning the ex-Clemson product might have to wait for the dust to settle before someone shows interest.

For now, the Texans will focus on strengthening their O-line through the draft while Anchrum stays ready for his next opportunity.
