While the NFL officially signed off for the 2024 season with the conclusion of the Super Bowl on Sunday night, the Houston Texans have already gone deep into the offseason.
What started with a divisional round loss to the Kansas City Chiefs turned into a flurry of activity. The Texans fired offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik and replaced him with Nick Caley. Meanwhile, Joe Mixon put out some cryptic tweets and fans have already begun to speculate what the roster could look like in 2025.
With Houston trying to get over the hump in the AFC, some decisions are more obvious than others and it leaves these five players looking for a new home now that the season has officially ended.
1. Stefon Diggs, WR
Diggs was one of the marquee additions of the Texans offseason as he looked to help C.J. Stroud in his second season. One of the league’s most dynamic receivers, Diggs had gone over 1,000 yards in six straight seasons and was coming off a 107-catch campaign for 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns in his final season with the Buffalo Bills.
A contract restructure gave the 31-year-old all the motivation he needed as he pursued one final contract in free agency, but his tenure with the Texans didn’t go as planned.
Diggs never got going despite a 10-catch, 94-yard performance against his other former team, the Minnesota Vikings in Week 3. Although he averaged eight targets a game, it didn’t translate into the production Houston was hoping for with 47 catches for 496 yards and three touchdowns before he suffered a torn ACL in an Oct. 27 win over the Indianapolis Colts.
The injury leaves Diggs’ future uncertain. While he was still on pace to flirt with a 1,000-yard season, teams will be wary of a player north of 30 coming off a major injury. The Texans will also likely move on from Diggs due to their cap situation and needs elsewhere.
With Cooper Kupp and Deebo Samuel on the trade market and Tee Higgins as a potential free-agent target, the Texans have healthier options to partner with Nico Collins, leaving Diggs looking for a new team in 2025.
