Mike D’Antoni is adapting

D’Antoni sited in 2016 that he wanted Melo to play one way and Melo wanted to play another way. That is one of the reasons that the two split up in the middle of the 2011-12 season. They couldn’t get on the same page in regards to the offense.

But, that shouldn’t be an issue this time around. There was a lot of speculation buzzing around when D’Antoni was rumored to be the team’s next head coach. How would he fit with Harden? What about Dwight Howard? There were plenty of questions.

But, D’Antoni, obviously, worked out quite nicely. D’Antoni is one of the greatest offensive minds in the NBA so the fit with Harden wasn’t a stretch but, at first glance, it wasn’t a perfect fit. D’Antoni tweaked his system to adapt to Harden and it worked out swimmingly.

Trending. Batum is not the answer for the Rockets. light

The same was said again when the Rockets went out and acquired Chris Paul. Paul is a good, not great, three-point shooter. He is also a ball dominant guard like Harden. There wasn’t any way it could work until it did.

It sounds like D’Antoni learned from experience in New York and there is no reason this sequel with Melo shouldn’t work.
