Roderick Johnson, OT

The Houston Texans claimed Roderick Johnson off of the waiver wire from the Cleveland Browns just a few weeks ago. I know what you may be thinking, how could a guy that the Browns don’t want possibly be any good for the Texans? Well, my friend, the Browns don’t exactly have the best development track record.

Johnson probably left Florida State a year too early but, that doesn’t mean he hasn’t earned a spot in this league. He has tremendous size at 6’7″ and 300 lbs that he pairs with his athleticism on the edge.

Johnson played left tackle at Florida State but, he’s been working at right tackle and left tackle for the Texans. He has been very solid in one-on-ones and has demonstrated great patience, not lunging at defenders and getting off balance.

Julién Davenport seems to have the left tackle spot already locked up after taking leaps and bounds in his development this offseason. But, the right tackle spot is still wide open with the biggest competition being free agent addition Seantrel Henderson.

Johnson could compete for that starting right tackle job or take over the all-important swing tackle role that every team needs. If he can provide solid depth for this team or even take a starting job this line will be better for it. Keep an eye on Johnson as the season progresses.
