Houston Rockets: Five bold predictions for the 2017-18 season
5. Houston will be your 2018 NBA Champions
Houston’s defensive improvements into the top 5 of the NBA will do enough to secure the margins Houston needs to win regularly. Chris Paul will allow an orchestrated and focused offense that will enable defenders to put the clamps on opposing offenses. The new additions will help balance Houston’s volatility once the bench steps in.
I know I said the Rockets weren’t going to be contenders in a previous write up. To an extent, I still believe a Carmelo Anthony is needed but I’m lying to you if Mbah a Moute and Tucker don’t make the case for the Rockets already. As constructed, Houston is more than capable of locking down Golden State’s lineup.
And here’s a BONUS BOLD PREDICTION: Carmelo Anthony is a Rocket by February 8, 2018, the upcoming season’s trade deadline date.
Arguably, Houston’s biggest rival on the year will be the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs’ combination of discipline and methodical execution will present some problems for the Rockets. Houston’s versatility is only matched by the Spurs regarding offensive pace. Will Houston’s attack, led by Paul and Harden, be enough to keep with San Antonio? We’ll see. I wouldn’t bet against Houston, however.

Am I insane? Will Houston’s volume preclude our three-point record attempt? Will San Antonio or Golden State knock Houston out? Will Harden be an iron man yet again?
