2. The Recent Extensions Are Not Death Sentences
Very few moves look smart when you’re 2-5, but the extensions of Kareem Jackson, Johnathan Joseph, Whitney Mercilus, and Derek Newton all look very bad up to this point.
It’s easy to criticize the Texans now about these moves, but none of these moves looked awful three months ago.
The good news is that they are not stuck with any of them. Credit Rick Smith that none of them were structured like the Brian Cushing deal that looks awful due to his unfortunate string of injuries.
If worst came to worst, these players are only tied to the Texans through 2016.
