Let’s talk about the Texans’ next pick — the 33rd — the first of the second round.

The Texans are in dire need of an additional, extremely capable signal caller and here’s their opportunity to snag one right now.

I’m already over the disappointing fact that the Texans did not trade up to get Johnny Manziel or Teddy Bridgewater. These two guys will flourish with their new teams and their respective fan bases will love them because of their talents and for who they are and what they can do.

But the time is now to draft Derek Carr. The Texans don’t need to worry about that last name, or his brother David. It doesn’t matter. It was a different era, and that’s a different person waiting on the board to be drafted.

He is the best quarterback available to draft at this moment and you don’t have to take my word for it. This past season, he threw for more than 5,000 yards and an insane 50 touchdowns for a whopping 76.3 QBR! Can somebody get the Playstation 4 out to duplicate this?

His statistics have displayed marked improvement with each season he has been the quarterback for Fresno State.

The eerie part about this is that David Carr, who also played for the Bulldogs, displayed nearly the same level of melioration as Derek. In his last two seasons, David increased his passing yards from 2,338 yards his junior year to 4,839 yards his senior year — more than double.

This goes to show that if your last name is Carr, you’re going work hard to prove your mettle and do what it takes to get to the next level and thrive. I strongly believe Derek Carr can do this.

But he won’t be thrown to the wolves though unlike his brother — the Texans are no longer in the infancy of being an expansion team. They’re grown up now with the pieces that are needed for long-term success in pro football.  They’re serious and committed to winning now. What a difference 12 years makes.

The Houston Texans are on the clock once again and I strongly urge them to take Carr with the 33rd pick! He may be a long shot in some eyes; but remember, sometimes long shots pay off big!

Besides, he has a cannon for an arm and the scrambling legs of a cheetah — he can be extremely evasive if the pocket gets flushed out!

I can’t stomach the possibility that the weight of the Texans’ offense resting on Ryan Fitzpatrick‘s shoulders.
