While many Texans fans and pundits were expecting the Texans to select a quarterback with the 33rd overall pick, the Texans instead opted to beef up their offensive line with the selection of Su’a-Filo. Many disagreed with this pick, but in hindsight, this was the right selection at the right time.

Su’a-Filo was projected by many as the top guard in this year’s class, and the Texans were able to get him in the second round. That is incredible value for a position that is sorely needed in Houston with the departure of Wade Smith.

By drafting Su’a-Filo, the Texans can now possibly shift David Quessenberry over to right tackle in competition with the much-maligned Derek Newton. Quessenberry, who was having a terrific camp last pre-season before his season-ending injury, could be a major upgrade over Newton. Before the selection of Su’a-Filo, some were expecting Quessenberry to compete at left guard. By selecting Su’a-Filo, the Texans essentially have killed two birds with one stone by filling two offensive line holes.

Football is a game that is won in the trenches, so the Texans made the right decision by improving two spots on their offensive line by picking Su’a-Filo.
