There’s been a lot of change surrounding the Houston Texans as they report for training camp. Coming off a disappointing finish to the 2024 season, the Texans are welcoming a new offensive coordinator, several new offensive linemen and an intriguing draft class as they prepare for the upcoming season but that also means a lot of familiar faces are looking for a new start somewhere else.
For one former Texans veteran, the new change isn’t going well. After being part of the problem in Houston's struggles in the trenches a year ago, he’s already fallen out of favor with his new team and is causing a massive headache as they’ve taken the field for camp.
Kenyon Green was working with the third-team OL during OTAs.

Now he reportedly isn’t practicing today.
Not a great start in Philadelphia for someone that many thought could compete with Tyler Steen for the starting job at RG.
The Eagles Already Have Buyer’s Remorse on Kenyon Green
Former Texans guard Kenyon Green was one of the players that was shipped out during the Texans’ offensive line overhaul this offseason. A former first-round pick, Green never found his footing in Houston and was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson in March.
While the Eagles were hoping to strike gold in the same way they did with Mekhi Becton one year ago, that hasn’t happened early in camp as Green is working with the third team and isn’t practicing on Wednesday according to Anthony DiBona of The Philly Special podcast.
Texans fans likely aren’t surprised by this outcome. Green was the 15th overall pick by the Texans in the 2022 draft but never lived up to the expectations coming out of Texas A&M. While he made 14 starts during his rookie season, Pro Football Focus gave him a 37.7 overall grade that ranked 83rd out of 84 qualifying guards. Green’s sophomore season in 2023 was wiped out due to a shoulder injury and his return to the lineup didn’t go well as he logged a 38.6 overall grade that was 78th out of 79 qualifiers last season.
The Eagles may have felt some hubris in the deal after reviving Becton’s career after he was a bust as an offensive tackle with the New York Jets. But when Becton left to sign with the Los Angeles Chargers during the offseason, Philadelphia acquired Green as competition ahead of camp.
That decision appears to have busted in the same way the Texans did when they selected Green a few years ago. Working with one of the best offensive line coaches in the NFL in Jeff Stoutland, it seemed like a great way for Green to revive his career. Instead, he’s already landed in the doghouse and could be on his way out of his new city before ever playing a snap.
