The Houston Texans didn't waste time switching things up on the roster this offseason. After giving up the fourth-most sacks in the NFL last season (54), the Texans decided to change things up front.
Houston released guard Shaq Mason. They didn't stop there, as they traded away Laremy Tunsil and Kenyon Green to the NFC East. Tunsil landed with the Washington Commanders, while Green is with the Philadelphia Eagles.
May 1st was the deadline for teams to pick fifth-year options for players from the 2022 draft class. The Eagles decided they were going to decline Green's fifth-year option.

Eagles Decline Kenyon Green’s Fifth-Year Option
In a surprising move in March, the Texans shipped Green to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for C.J. Gardner-Johnson and a pick swap in 2026. That was a win for the Texans, considering how much Green has struggled thus far in the NFL.
He was the 15th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, starting in 23 games (27 games overall). He missed the entire 2023 season with a shoulder injury before missing more time last season with yet another shoulder injury.
Even though he's penciled in as the starter right now, he has work to do. As a rookie in 2022, he had a 37.7 overall grade (132nd among 140 eligible guards), a 27 pass-blocking grade (121st among 140 eligible guards), and a 47.4 run-blocking grade (115th among 140 eligible guards) per PFF.
That could have been chalked up to him learning the NFL game, but his play didn't get better in 2024. Over nine starts, Green posted a 38.6 overall grade (132nd among 136 eligible guards), 39.7 pass-blocking grade (107th among 136 eligible guards), and a 44.6 run-blocking grade (132nd among 136 eligible guards). In addition, he allowed 28 pressures, five sacks, and committed seven penalties.
These numbers aren't pretty, and it makes sense why the Eagles want to see how he performs under OL coach Jeff Stoutland before making a decision on his future with the team. If his play doesn't improve, it's obvious the Eagles will let him walk in free agency.
