After a second consecutive 10-7 season followed by a divisional-round loss in the AFC, the Houston Texans decided to make drastic changes to kick off their offseason. Much to the surprise of a lot of football fans, the Texans moved on from offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik. After finishing 19th in points and 22nd in total offense, Houston management felt it was time to make some changes.

Whether Slowik deserved to get fired or not is beside the point. One thing is clear, however. The changes will not stop with the coaching staff. Texans fans can expect a near-complete overhaul in a few key positions.

One of those is the offensive line. Per Pro Football Focus, the Texans had the fourth-worst offensive line in the league in 2024. Only Cincinnati, Seattle, and New England finished below them in their rankings. Unsurprisingly, none of those teams made the playoffs. It is very difficult to find success in the NFL with a porous offensive line and the Texans need to tackle this area immediately.

An obvious departure in that unit is Kenyon Green. The former first-round pick continued to underwhelm in his second healthy season in Houston. After a series of poor performances, Green was benched in Week 8 against the Colts. Following the concussion Jarrett Patterson suffered in that game, Green continued to start for one more week before landing on the injured reserve himself. Upon his return later in the season, the former Texas A&M standout played sparingly in a bench role.

Per Pro Football Focus, Green was the second-worst guard in the NFL among 77 eligible players in that position. His 39.7 pass-blocking grade is atrocious. Even though the coaching staff had talked about him being a better option in the running game, his run block grade of 44.6 still leaves plenty to be desired.

"Texans general manager Nick Caserio assuredly understands that his team’s interior offensive line needs to be totally revamped, and that would theoretically leave Green on the trade block. One would expect Green to have supporters throughout the league, given his age (23) and strong career at Texas A&M not long ago."

Bradley Locker, PFF

Therefore, PFF's Bradley Locker identified him as a potential trade candidate this offseason. He obviously hasn't shown much in his NFL career, but first-round picks usually get another chance elsewhere.

The Texans will not get much in return for him but it's time they move on from the draft bust and revamp the interior offensive line.
