The Houston Texans are going into Week 3 of training camp after an offseason that saw them deal with several changes on the offensive side of the ball.

Houston fired Bobby Slowik before hiring Nick Caley to be the replacement at offensive coordinator. They traded away their best offensive lineman, Laremy Tunsil, to the Washington Commanders. They also added three new WRs in Christian Kirk, Jayden Higgins, and Jaylin Noel this offseason.

There are a lot of moving parts, but it hasn't looked good on the practice field, and Monday's practice is the latest example of that.

According to ESPN's DJ Bien Aime, this session was the worst start that offense has had all summer. Bien-Aime tweeted that the offense had multiple runs stuffed, a dropped pass from Nico Collins, a false start, a deflected pass at the line, pass catchers struggling to get open quickly, and even a pick 6 by Chauncey Gardner Johnson on a pass from C.J. Stroud.

Texans Offense Struggled Massively on Monday

This report won't thrill Texans fans, but it needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Houston's defense is stacked in the secondary with the pass rushers to consistently generate pressure in the backfield.

Considering that Houston has a ton of new faces in the building learning a new system, these bumps in the road were expected. Nonetheless, it has been a trend throughout the summer, and people are looking for things to take a turn for the better.

The first preseason game for Houston is on Aug. 9 against the Minnesota Vikings, but the starters likely aren't going to play. That means these practice sessions mean that much more to an offense that badly needs reps to improve.

Bien-Aime added after that initial tweet, the offense did pick things up, as Stroud had nice completions to Dalton Schultz and Noel. Stroud also had a nice scramble, as they showed signs of life.

The next month will be critical for this offense. They have the talent to be a quality unit, but they need to make sure everyone is on the same page. The receivers and Stroud need to continue hashing the kinks out, while the offensive line needs to build continuity.

The Texans open up the campaign against the Los Angeles Rams and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Both teams made the playoffs last season, and Houston's offense will need to bring its A-game to keep up with these dynamic offenses.

This is what training camp is for. Getting better and improving, which is exactly what the offense needs to do down in H-Town.
