Former Houston Texans wide receiver Vyncint Smith has bounced around the league since last playing with the New York Jets in 2021. The veteran wide receiver began his NFL career with the Texans in 2018 as an undrafted free agent following the 2018 NFL Draft.

The former Limestone University standout appeared in five games with Houston, where he had five receptions (10 targets) for 91 yards and a touchdown. After spending his rookie season with the Texans, they waived Smith the next year, who was picked up by the New York Jets.

Smith spent three seasons in New York, contributing on offense and special teams. However, his time eventually ended with the Jets. Smith landed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next but was waived in Aug. 2022.

After his time with the Buccaneers, the veteran receiver spent parts of the 2022 season with the Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts’ practice squads. The Broncos released Smith on Oct. 11, 2022, but was signed almost a week later by the Colts.

Smith did not appear in any regular season games with the Colts, but landed a reserve/futures deal at the end of 2022 season. However, the former Houston receiver was cut the next summer ahead of the 2023 season.

Former Texans WR Vyncint Smith Signs With CFL's Toronto Argonauts

Even though he hasn’t played a snap of NFL regular season football since 2021, the former Texans wideout is not giving up on continuing his professional football career. According to Aaron Wilson or KPRC-2, Smith has signed with the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL.

The former NFL receiver hasn’t played in the CFL before, so this will be a major adjustment as he joins the Argos, who have two out of the last three Grey Cups. Before deciding to take the CFL route, Smith played spring football in the UFL last year.

In seven games with the DC Defenders last season, the 6-foot-3 receiver had six receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown. Smith could not capture another NFL opportunity after his stint in the UFL, but he’ll try again in the CFL.
