The Houston Texans have made some interesting moves this offseason as they revamp this roster for the 2025 season. They made some big changes along the offensive line, moving on from Laremy Tunsil, Shaq Mason, and Kenyon Green.

They made some low-cost additions thus far, but on Monday, they made a big splash. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Houston and CB Derek Stingley agreed to terms on a three-year, $90 million extension, including a staggering $89 million guaranteed.

Texans and Derek Stingley Agreed to Massive Extension

These two sides have been discussing the possibility of a new deal this offseason, and it came to fruition. Stingley is now the highest-paid CB in the league, surpassing Jaycee Horn, who just inked a four-year, $100 million extension on March 10.

The 23-year-old was a third-overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and developed into a true CB1 for the Texans. In 37 career games, the LSU product has supplied 136 total tackles, 36 pass breakups, and 11 interceptions.

In 2024, Stingley posted career-highs in total tackles (54), pass deflections (18), and tackles for loss (4), According to PFF, he had a 73.9 overall grade (30th among 222 eligible cornerbacks) and a 74.9 coverage grade (22nd among 222 eligible cornerbacks).

The Texans decided to proactively retain one of their best young players and were smart for it. Kansas City Chiefs CB Trent McDuffie and New York Jets CB Sauce Gardner are both eligible for extensions and are set to cash in as well. These guys have All-Pros under their belts, which will only raise the price of their extensions.

Houston getting ahead of the curb and having Stingley signed through his age-28 season is huge for this group. The Texans understand he's a foundational piece of this team and they rewarded him as such.
