The NFL world is down in Indianapolis for the Scouting Combine. This gives teams a glimpse at the top prospects coming into the league and allows them to speak to them one-on-one.

While that is the main focus currently, free agency is right around the corner. That is another avenue teams will use to find upgrades on their team. The Texans have some holes on the roster that need to be improved, and head coach DeMeco Ryans hinted at their interest in receiver Deebo Samuel.

Samuel officially requested a trade from the San Francisco 49ers during exit meetings and is seeking to find a new team. When Ryans was asked about Samuel being available, he said, "Always interested in good players, and he's a good player."

Texans Could Have an Interest in Deebo Samuel

Samuel has one year left on his current contract with a $15.8 million cap hit. He is known for being a playmaker who can line up all over the field. He can take snaps in the backfield, in the slot, and on the outside.

In his NFL career, Samuel has 334 receptions for 4,792 receiving yards and 22 receiving touchdowns. On the ground, he's compiled 1,143 rushing yards and 20 scores.

Whether or not the Texans will acquire him remains to be seen. They have a need in the receiver room. Tank Dell is in a good place mentally, but there is no timetable for his return.

Stefon Diggs tore his ACL and is also slated to hit free agency. Houston has made it clear that they would be open to re-signing Diggs but nothing is locked in.

Trading for a playmaker like Samuel is an enticing option for the Texans and would give them another difference-maker in the aerial attack. Houston has made the divisional round for two straight seasons, so adding a player like Samuel could help raise the floor of this team.
