The Houston Texans started their mandatory minicamp on Tuesday and have two days of practice before training camp begins next month.
That's when things start cranking up before the start of the 2025 season. Houston has made the playoffs in two straight seasons under DeMeco Ryans, and the addition of Joe Mixon made a difference for the offense last season.
Mixon was reportedly wearing a walking boot, but there's some good news to report regarding that. Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reported that Mixon is out of the boot and has an ankle brace instead.
He wrote, "Mobility much improved, tracking well for training camp."

Not practicing: Joe Mixon and Dameon Pierce again. Mixon out of walking boot, per sources, now in ankle brace. Mobility much improved, tracking well for training camp @KPRC2
Joe Mixon is Out of His Walking Boot at Texans Practice
While being out there for minicamp would have been nice, it isn't a big deal for a veteran like Mixon. Since it sounds like he'll be ready to roll in training camp, which is when it starts to matter.
Hopefully, the next couple of weeks give him all the time he needs to get fully healthy and hit the ground running in training camp. The Texans also made a big addition to the backfield when they signed RB Nick Chubb to a one-year deal.
These two guys have a chance to form one of the top running back duos in the league, but getting on the field is the first step for Mixon.
During the 2024 campaign, he racked up 1,016 rushing yards, 309 receiving yards, and 12 total touchdowns. He's able to have an impact in many different ways, and Houston knows that.
Mixon has been on the sidelines all throughout the offseason. That isn't ideal, but this is the time of the year for him to get it right. Once the games start in September, the Texans will lean on Mixon in both the ground and pass game.
Regaining more mobility in his ankle is great development for the team going into the summer.
