On Monday, the Houston Texans bolstered their offense and backfield, signing veteran running back Nick Chubb to a one-year deal.
When it was initially revealed that Chubb would not be returning to the Cleveland Browns this offseason, the Chicago Bears were mentioned as a possible option, not the Houston Texans. However, the rumor mill started picking up steam around the Texans over the weekend, which led to Chubb taking and passing his physical, opening the door for a signing.
With Chubb in the fold, the Texans might have one of the better RB duos in the league heading into next season. The veteran running back was at the team’s facility on Monday and has sent a message to fans in preparation for this upcoming season.
“What’s up, H-Town? Nick Chubb here. Super excited to be here, let’s get to work,” the veteran running back said in a video posted by the Texans on Twitter.

The 29-year-old running back is looking to show the Texans and the rest of the league that he still has something left in the tank after a frustrating 2024 season.
Chubb missed the first six games of the season as he was recovering from a devastating knee injury he suffered in 2023. Chubb made his 2024 debut in Week 7 and played in eight games, where he had 332 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 102 carries.
However, the veteran running back was again hit by the injury bug in Week 15, suffering a broken foot.
The Texans would love to see Chubb stay healthy this season, as he has a chance to be even better in Houston, as he won’t have to shoulder a starter’s workload. With Joe Mixon still playing at a high level and the Texans having rookie Woody Marks, Chubb could get 10-12 carries a game and be effective.
The hardest part will be trying to figure out how to balance the snap shares in the running back room, but a healthy Chubb paired with Mixon could give the Texans an extra boost to make a deep playoff run in 2025.
