The Houston Texans have an obvious need heading into next week’s NFL Draft. After watching C.J. Stroud get sacked 52 times last season, the Texans entered the offseason looking to rebuild their offensive line. The objective led to a flurry of activity as Houston traded Laremy Tunsil and Kenyon Green while acquiring Laken Tomlinson, Ed Ingram and Cam Robinson. But it hasn’t stopped speculation on where the Texans could go with the 25th overall pick.

For Texans fans, it’s not if the team selects an offensive lineman with that pick. It’s who they could be interested in. Thankfully, some light was shed on the topic on Wednesday and it’s a battle that has reportedly come down to two names before the NFL descends on Green Bay.

Kelvin Banks Jr., Tyler Booker Final Candidates For Texans in NFL Draft

NFL draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah dropped his intel on who the Texans could be eyeing during an appearance on The Ryen Russillo Podcast. He landed on the "Law Firm of Booker and Banks,” referring to  Texas offensive lineman Kelvin Banks Jr. and Alabama guard Tyler Booker, and both provide an immediate boost to Houston’s offensive line if they’re available at pick No. 25.

“The Houston Texans…it’s going to be the law firm of Booker or Banks,” Jeremiah said. “They are drafting a lineman between those two.”

Banks was an All-American tackle with the Longhorns, who made back-to-back College Football Playoff appearances with the 21-year-old at offensive tackle. While tackle was his primary position, many believe he could shift to guard at the next level and help Houston on the interior. There’s also the possibility that Banks could shift back to tackle with Robinson on a one-year contract, allowing Houston to take another guard in next year’s draft.

Of course, there’s the stable option of plugging and playing Booker at right guard. Booker has spent three seasons mastering that position at Alabama and would have a leg up on Banks as they transition to the next level. He also is a strong pass blocker with no sacks and 10 pressures allowed in 370 pass-blocking snaps last season according to Pro Football Focus.

No matter who the Texans decide to take, it would be music to the ears of fans to hear an offensive lineman’s name called in Round 1. After a long offseason of speculation, it appears their decision is coming down to the wire and could help Houston improve in the trenches in 2025 and beyond.
