Former Houston Texans quarterback Kedon Slovis has found a new landing spot, signing with the Arizona Cardinals on the practice squad, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero. This is the same role the USC product was asked to fill for the Texans after starting his career as an undrafted free agent with the Indianapolis Colts.

Slovis is yet to spend time in a starting lineup outside of preseason action. This weighed into Houston's decision to waive Slovis earlier in the week and opened the door to his signing with Arizona. A solid fit with Kyler Murray and Jacoby Brissett locked into place as the first two options. Having two experienced starters provides a great level of stability.
The Cardinals are better able to turn their attention to Slovis as a project quarterback and see if there is any development path to turning the second-year player into a viable backup option beyond this season.
Recent Texans Roster Cut Kedon Slovis Finds Surprise New Landing Spot in Arizona
Pelissero pointed out that Slovis was an Arizona quarterback in high school and that this was a homecoming of sorts. No question, it is a great landing spot that won't put pressure on the insurance option or have unrealistic expectations. Slovis is simply being brought into the building as insurance in hopes of finding a surprise development option. If things don't work out as hoped, it won't be difficult to turn the page.
Houston's quarterback room didn't give Slovis a legitimate chance to make the roster or practice squad, with Graham Mertz and Davis Mills providing insurance behind franchise quarterback C.J. Stroud. All of the Texans' developmental energy at the position needs to go into finding out what exactly they have in Mertz and if the Florida alum has a chance to stabilize the backup position for years to come behind Stroud.
This was the hope when the Texans drafted Mertz, making it clear that Slovis was on borrowed time after joining the organization a year ago. Perhaps a change of scenery will be what is needed to take a meaningful step forward in development and give the Cardinals a surprise backup option.
