NFL Gifts Texans Advantage Over Division Rivals With 2025 Schedule

The Houston Texans should be celebrating the fact that NFL schedule-makers have given them a huge advantage over their AFC South rivals in 2025.

The Houston Texans are one of the NFL's most exciting up-and-coming teams, and their back-to-back AFC South title wins further solidify that fact. General manager Nick Caserio has since spent the offseason upgrading the roster through free agency and the 2025 draft, putting the Texans in a great spot to win another division title next season.

In fact, FanDuel Sportsbook is currently favoring Houston to win a third straight AFC South title at +115 odds.

A combination of better coaches and players compared to their rivals is likely playing a big role in the Texans' positive outlook. Additionally, their status as the odds-on AFC South favorite could have something to do with their favorable 2025 regular season schedule.

Texans Will Have Travel Advantage Over AFC South Rivals in 2025

The NFL has been slowly unveiling the 2025 schedule this week, including its release of next season's international games. Interestingly enough, the Texans won't be playing any overseas games this fall, which can't be said for two of their biggest rivals.

With the Jacksonville Jaguars taking on the L.A. Rams in a Week 7 London showdown, followed by the Indianapolis Colts facing the Atlanta Falcons in Germany in Week 10, the Texans' lack of international action could give them an advantage over their top AFC South foes.

Travel plays a role in a team's success across all sports, and the NFL isn't an exception. A larger amount of travel time makes it difficult for players and coaches to properly rest after games, which can become more detrimental as the season progresses.

Fortunately, head coach DeMeco Ryans' squad won't have to travel as much as their AFC South rivals next season. According to CBS Sports' Jordan Dajani, the Texans will travel 18,892 miles throughout the 2025 campaign, which is the 14th-most in the NFL.

For comparison, the Jaguars will travel 29,006 miles (3rd) while the Colts will be spending 25,089 miles across the globe (7th). The Tennessee Titans will be traveling the least out of the quartet (18,157 miles, 17th); however, their lower total likely won't be enough to make them a threat to the Texans' outlook.

Regardless of travel differences, the 2024 campaign saw the Texans dominate the AFC South. Houston went a resounding 5-1 against its rivals, with the sole loss being a 32-27 defeat at the hands of the Titans at NRG Stadium in Week 12.

The NFL offseason is flying by, and it won't be long before the Texans will get the chance to pick up from where they left off as far as their AFC South dominance is concerned.
