Teams around the NFL have transitioned to the next phase of the offseason, and that's OTAs. It gives players and coaches the time to get some work in together before mandatory minicamp and training camp start.
Several players are seeking to latch onto rosters, but not everyone will be successful in that aspect. And a former Texan got released on Monday. The Green Bay Packers released WR Jadon Janke with an injury designation.
Former Texans WR Jadon Janke Was Released by Packers on Monday
Janke signed with the Texans as an undrafted free agent last year before getting released during training camp. He briefly spent time with the Miami Dolphins in 2024 before signing with the Packers earlier in the offseason.
Despite signing with the Packers, he wasn't able to do the most with it. Being injured certainly made matters worse for him.
In his college career, Janke had 170 catches for 2,800 receiving yards and 30 touchdowns at South Dakota State. He was very productive there, but the NFL is a different beast. Last year, the Texans had Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins, Tank Dell, John Metchie, and Xavier Hutchinson as their top WRs going into the year. They didn't have room for Janke, and that's a similar case to what happened in Green Bay.
The Packers' receiver room is deep. They have Matthew Golden, Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, Savion Williams, and Mecole Hardman, to name a few guys in that room. The competition is fierce in there, and since Janke wasn't even stepping on the field at this point, it made their decision easy to part ways.
If he gets healthy in time for training camp, Janke could land a tryout. Teams are always looking for depth at receiver, and Janke may be able to provide that.
