The Houston Texans officially opened OTAs back on May 28. This gave both players and coaches the first chance to practice and workout with one another for the first time in 2025.
The Texans made some additions via the NFL draft and hope they can help make a difference this year and beyond. WR Jayden Higgins quickly caught the attention of Nico Collins in OTAs, but it wasn't only him who stood out in practice.
OT Aireontae Ersery is someone stepping up already. He was drafted with the 48th overall pick and could have a chance to start on Day 1.
Ersery has cross-trained at both LT and RT through the first couple of practices. He has also seen taking first team reps at LT. The Minnesota product started 38 games of his college career at left tackle but since the Texans added Cam Robinson to the fold in free agency, he likely will hold down that spot.
Meanwhile, on the right side, that competition is wide open. Blake Fisher started five games for Houston in 2024, yet nothing is guaranteed for him. During the first OTA practice on May 28, Ersery got first-team reps over Fisher.
Ersery uses his athleticism to quickly jump out of his stance. The Missouri native has a stiff punch that can redirect pass rushers.
The Athletic's Dane Brugler wrote, "Overall, Ersery has the size, strength and movement talent to become an NFL starting tackle — if his timing, angles and overall consistency continue to improve with pro coaching," in his breakdown.
Ersery still has things he needs to iron out in his game, but it's clear the Texans like the traits he brings to the field. They wasted no time putting him out of the field, and he will be a name to watch over the next few months.
