Super Bowl LIX is set to go down on Sunday when the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles battle in New Orleans.
The other 30 teams in the NFL have begun looking down the line and how they'll improve their roster. While that has the attention of management, there will be five former Texans playing in the Super Bowl with a chance to come away with a ring.
That list of players includes DeAndre Hopkins, Justin Reid, Charles Omenihu, Steven Nelson, and Thomas Booker.
Hopkins was the best Texan on this list. He was the 27th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. In seven seasons (110 games), Hopkins ranked second in team history in receptions (632), receiving yards (8,602), and receiving touchdowns (54).
Since getting traded by the Texans in 2020, he's landed with the Arizona Cardinals and Tennessee Titans before getting shipped to the Chiefs this season.
Reid was the Texans' third-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. From 2018-2021, the Stanford product compiled 315 total tackles, 11 TFLs, 23 pass deflections, and seven interceptions. After hitting free agency in 2022, he inked a three-year, $31.5 million contract with the Chiefs.
Fast forward three years later and Reid is looking to secure his third straight championship.
Omenihu is another player who signed with the Chiefs after spending time with the Texans. The 27-year-old was Houston's fifth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. From 2019 to 2021 with the Texans, he had 41 total tackles, 24 QB hits, eight TFLs, and seven sacks. After playing with the San Francisco 49ers (2021-22), he signed with the Chiefs.
He developed into a great rotation piece upfront. In 17 games with the Chiefs, Omenihu had notched 34 total tackles and eight sacks. The 27-year-old is eyeing his second Super Bowl.
Nelson is a player who played for the Texans from 2022-23. Over 31 starts with Houston, he had 115 total tackles, 19 pass breakups, and five interceptions. Amid all the injuries Kansas City was experiencing in the secondary, Nelson decided to sign with the Chiefs, where he spent the first four years of his career.
Booker came into the league as a fifth-round pick during the 2022 NFL Draft by Houston. He played one season with the Texans, finishing with 15 total tackles and a half sack. Booker ultimately got waived by Houston in August 2023 before landing with the Eagles. He is chasing his first championship and looks to get that done on Sunday.
With four former Texans on the Chiefs and one player on the Eagles, someone who used to don a Houston uniform will be a Super Bowl champion following the contest.
