The Houston Texans have had a busy offseason as they look to become a title contender in 2025. The Texans addressed their offensive line by trading Laremy Tunsil and Kenyon Green, and could make an addition in next week’s draft.

But while people are coming and going from Houston, some former Texans have had a hard time finding a job. This includes a player whose departure became official when free agency began, and it’s unlikely this player will find a new team before the calendar turns to May.

Former Texans WR Robert Woods Is Still Looking For A New Team

The Texans' receiving group was a big need the past two offseasons, and a big reason was the ineffectiveness of Robert Woods. Woods signed a two-year deal with Houston in 2023, and the Texans hoped that he could replicate some of his success he had during the prime of his career with the Los Angeles Rams.

Despite the rise of franchise quarterback C.J. Stroud, Woods never became a trusted target. He caught just 40 passes for 426 yards and a touchdown in 14 games in 2023 and opened the door for Houston to trade for Stefon Diggs. When injuries opened the door for more playing time, Woods disappointed again, catching just 20 passes for 203 yards.

The season is even more disappointing at the end of the year. With the Texans desperate for targets, Woods didn’t step up, catching three passes for 19 yards in a Dec. 21 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, where Tank Dell suffered a gruesome knee injury. He disappointed again in the wild-card win over the Los Angeles Chargers, catching two passes for 22 yards.

After two down seasons in Houston, it’s hard to imagine a team that would take the risk of bringing him in. But there are some possibilities thanks to Sean McVay’s coaching tree, which spans to places like Minnesota, where Kevin O’Connell could be looking for an upgrade over Jalen Nailor at the third receiver spot.

Then again, teams could fill that need in the upcoming draft, and signing a 33-year-old veteran coming off two years of minimal production doesn’t feel like a solution. With that in mind, Woods is likely to remain on the market and may have trouble finding a job as the new season approaches.
