Takeaways are key

The next thing is takeaways. The Houston Texans are currently ranked #9 in takeaways per game. This has been a product of the improving pass rush and secondary. Let’s break it down.

JJ Watt, Jadeveon Clowney, and Whitney Mercilus have consistently improved as the season has progressed. The stats for all three players have not been there, however, people should remember both JJ Watt and Whitney Mercilus are both coming back from season-ending injuries. This means they will continue to get better.

The best part of this is that the pass rush has definitely helped make things easier for the Texans improving but patchwork secondary. Also, just like the rushing game, the secondary will improve following the bye week, via a player returning from injury.

Also. Three reasons why Kareem Jackson is a Pro-Bowler. light

Aaron Colvin will be coming back from an ankle injury and this will only help improve a defensive group that has only allowed 29 explosive plays (Run of 15 yards or more/Passes of 20 yards or more). Additionally, this will allow Romeo Crennel the flexibility to play Kareem Jackson at either safety or corner depending on the matchup.

With rookie safety, Justin Reid, playing really well and Jonathan Joseph getting healthy over the bye, the Texans now have multiple weapons to deploy in their secondary. And the overall play in the backend of the defense should skyrocket moving forward.
