The Houston Texans are in a bye week after six straight wins. But questions will need to be answered as they get ready for the second half.

Well, well, well. What do we have here? The Houston Texans that were once 0-3 are now on a six-game winning streak, currently in first place of the AFC South. Since when was that a possibility? Sure, this team started 0-2 a few years ago and made the playoffs. But come on! 0-3 and now we can say the Texans are the best team in the division right now?

Man, all of us would’ve already accepted the Texans as the third place team behind the Astros and Rockets. But with the Astros regrouping for 2019 and the Rockets trying to get going with James Harden back in the lineup, there is a new sheriff at the top of the helm and it’s the Texans. Ok! So perhaps it’s because they’re the only big game in town right now. Still, you have to admire what they have done.

When you think back to the start of the season, the expectations were high. But three games in, people were very depressed after Houston started 0-3 including a loss to the New York Giants. The New York Giants, who I hope win another game so that we don’t have to be an answer to a trivia question. Yes, that was an all-time low.

Since then, things have been trending up for for the Houston Texans. They’ve won six straight games. Four of those six games have been close, but a win’s a win. Not only that, the Texans have done something only one other team has done: win six straight after starting 0-3. The other team to do so? The 1970 New York Giants.

But now, the team rests in a bye week. This means no football, which is sad. But the best part is after everything the team has gone through, they’ve deserved a well-earned rest. It’s an opportunity to get everyone, including Deshaun Watson healthy. After taking his fair share of hits throughout the first nine games, Watson deserves to get healed up. It’s uncertain if his upper area is a hundred percent. But with the way he’s handled himself lately, you have to think he’s getting there to where he was last season.

There are plenty of reasons to be excited for the second half of the season. Watson has played well and is finally getting back to where he was playing last season. The defense is strong and proves to be a strength. The offense has found its balance on the pass and run despite a major injury to Will Fuller. And yes, the Texans are three games ahead of the rest of the AFC South.

But even so, there are some things that everyone else, including some of us in the city, are probably asking ourselves about this team. The Texans have been in this situation before, which can lead to skeptics looking in with a keen interest in answering the questions they have in mind. All of us are probably wondering if this team has what it takes. But we need to dive into these questions right away before we can reveal the answer.
