Houston Astros: Five most important players to the 2018 season
By T.A. Mock
Alex Bregman, 3B
The Houston Astros knew Alex Bregman was going to be a stud, otherwise, they wouldn’t have spent the number two overall pick on him in the 2015 draft. He had a slow start in his first cup of tea in 2016 but appeared to bust out in 2017 as a very good player and the playoff and World Series confirmed that.
However, I still don’t think anyone, besides Bregman, was prepared for what was to come in 2018. Bregman truly became a superstar for the Astros this season. He rapidly ascended the MLB star power hierarchy and was even dubbed “baseball’s newest supervillain.” If you have that kind of impact on the league, it pretty much guarantees your team depends on you for greatness.

Bregman was a steady rock for this team all year long when the other stars in the lineup were unable to hold that down. He led an incredible defense from the hot corner and anchored the offense for the two or three hole all year long.
When Carlos Correa was out, Bregman was there to pick up the slack. When Springer was out, he was there to pick up the slack. When Altuve was out, he was there to pick up the slack. What about when all three were out at the same time? Well, he was there to pick up the slack then as well.
Bregman truly had a historic season that enabled this Houston Astros team to have a historic season in the face of countless adversities. Bregman morphed himself into a superstar and leader when the team needed one. He was, without a doubt, the most important player for the Astros this year.
To this writer, these five members of the Houston Astros were the most important to this team and what they accomplished this year. Agree? Great! Disagree? Sound off below and let me know why!
