Houston Texans: 2018 consensus regular season award predictions
By T.A. Mock
Offensive Rookie of the Year: Keke Coutee, WR (4 votes)
Others receiving votes: Martinas Rankin, OT (1 vote), Jordan Thomas, TE (1 vote)
Keke Coutee wins the Houston Texans offensive rookie of the year in an absolute landslide. The young receiver from Texas Tech has tremendous upside in the slot. He has proven, reliable hands and is both fast and quick. He could quickly develop into a favorite for Watson.
He missed a lot of the preseason with two injuries which hurt his stock a little bit heading into the season. However, he should be able to bounce back from that fairly quickly. All he has to do is beat out Bruce Ellington for slot snaps.
Whitaker has loved Coutee since the draft and believes him to be the best option behind Watson for receptions. Andre Johnson’s endorsement was a plus as is the fact that they share a hometown.
As one of our writers, David Graf, pointed out to me, this will be a battle between Jordan Akins and Coutee but, surprisingly, Akins didn’t receive a vote. He also noted that Coutee is likely to have a few highlight plays that will stick out above the rest of these guys.
Rankin and Thomas’ versatility stood out to Lamb and Gracia. Rankin has the ability to step in at either guard or tackle in case of an injury or poor performance, he was also the Texans highest draft pick. Thomas has great versatility as well at both receiver and tight end. He’s a dark horse for this award.
