Houston Texans: 5 players trending up/down after first preseason game
By T.A. Mock
Trending Down: Stephen Anderson, TE, #89
This may be less about what Stephen Anderson did and more about what Jordan Akins did. But, Anderson didn’t see any action until all of the regulars were out of the game. Not a good first sign about his value to this team.
Anderson managed one catch for 18 yards on two targets. However, his other target was a dropped pass that hit him square in the chest along the goal line that he probably could’ve scored on. If this pattern continues, Anderson could be one of the odd men out at the end of the preseason.
Trending Up: Jordan Akins, TE, #88
Jordan Akins only caught two passes but, both plays were impressive catches that he took for touchdowns. The size and athleticism that got him drafted in the third round were on full display on both touchdowns catches. He also showed off an impressive amount of polish for a rookie.
Akins ran pretty solid routes and got enough separation that he was able to grab the passes and bring them in. It seems that the Houston Texans are just hitting the tip of the iceberg with this rookie. He also held his own on the few plays he stayed in to block. Don’t look now but, the Texans may actually have a tight end.
