The Houston Texans won their first preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Let’s take a look at five guys that are either trending up or down after the first game.

It sure is nice to see the Houston Texans back in the win column. Sure, it’s the preseason but, after last year, this win resulted in pure elation. Seeing these boys back on the gridiron was great. The win was great. Hopefully, this win continues through the rest of the season and pours into the regular season.

Deshaun Watson officially made his return to the field after tearing his ACL in week seven of last season against the Seahawks. His return was great but shortlived. He ran one series and completed one pass. Watson was the only member of the Houston Texans stars that played in the game.

The defense took steps towards elite territory once again after taking a step backward last year due to injuries. The pass rush was solid all night even into the depths of the roster. The coverage had some missteps but, overall looked pretty solid. This all culminated in a great goalline stand at the two-yard line for four downs to end the game.

Must Read. Three Texans players bound for the Hall of Fame. light

Jordan Akins looked like a stud while catching two touchdown passes from Brandon Weeden. Who, by the way, completed nine passes in a row to go along with those touchdowns. Troymaine Pope got the lion’s share of the carries for the offense. The offensive line actually looked competent but, there is still a lot of room for improvement.

Christian Covington looked solid in his return to the field. Zach Cunningham played very well, including collecting an interception after a Dylan Cole tipped ball. There was a lot to like about this Houston Texans team last night.

Keep in mind that this was just the first game of the preseason. A lot of things can change before the start of the regular season. A lot of things can change before next week’s game. But, for now, let’s take a look at three guys who are trending up after this first game and let’s take a look at three guys who are trending down.
