Reason #1: The Problem

As I watched the series with the Texas Arlington Rangers this past weekend, Hector Rondon struggled mightily in Saturday’s tilt as well as some slight miscues from Pressly which certainly proved to me that we needed a closer who could get the job done.

Ken Giles had long since been sent to the minors because of his inconsistency on the bump and not quite being able to handle the pressure of walking into a tough situation that he may or may not have inherited in games.

Luhnow seemed complacent about having the bullpen close “by-committee” but the problem with that is the guys we had weren’t necessarily that good at the task that was set before them.  Rondon likely was the best at it but as I mentioned before, there continued to be foul-ups.

If this team is to win a World Series, there needs to be stability at the closer position and we were DAMN LUCKY we got out of the postseason with a championship even though things were as unstable as attempting to drive 30 miles per hour down Elgin Street.  Have you tried it?  Well, good luck to you and your car because you’re going to need it as well as repairs from the massive potholes that are finally being repaired in some spots.

There needed to be a solution to the dilemma that the Houston Astros were facing and let’s talk about in more detail.
