6. Calvin Murphy, PG/SG, 1971 – 1983

Murphy, along with Rudy T, was started his career in San Diego. He was also part of the team that helped the transition to Houston. Murphy averaged 17.9 points and 4.4 assists and shot 48.2% from the floor.

He played his entire 13-year career in Houston and played excellently the entire time. That’s what propels him higher on this list than other guys with championship pedigrees. Despite being inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1993, he was one of the most underrated players during his career. The Rockets retired his #23 as well.

5. Yao Ming, C, 2002 – 2011

Yao made the Houston Rockets go worldwide, go global, however you want to say it. Being from China, he opened up the Rockets to a massive new fan base. He is without a doubt one of the most memorable players of this millennium.

He stood at 7’6″ and weighed in at 310 lbs. His enormous size helped him absolutely dominate offensively and defensively. He averaged 19 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game. However, there is a lot of “what-ifs” when it comes to Yao. His injuries derailed his career. He was an incredible talent as he made five straight All-NBA teams. The Rockets retired his #11 and he now resides in the Hall of Fame.
