Houston Texans: Five thoughts as to why to be optimistic about this team

Thought #3: The rise of the Texans
But eventually things simmered for only one reason, the sudden rise of Watson. Unfortunately, I think Houston Texans fans pretty much gave up on the defense once season-ending injuries occurred with J.J. Watt and Whitney Mercilus but at that point all people wanted to see was the explosive and energizing play of the former Clemson Tiger.
Brown then returned against the Seattle Seahawks Week 8 and was then swapped to that said team for a second-round pick. Unfortunately, after that game, the amazing stats of 1,699 yards passing along with19 touchdowns to eight interceptions and a QB rating of 103.0 came to an end as it was confirmed Watson tore his ACL on a non-contact play during practice.
In disappointment, I burst into tears instead of studying for my Calculus test.
At this point, all that happened for the rest of the year was a 1-8 record and the pitiful play of the offensive line, secondary and lack of depth were exposed as the Texans struggled to get a win no matter what scheme they would try.

Cushing, a Texans’ mainstay for nine seasons, was eventually cut early this off season. By the end of 2017, I think O’Brien and Smith had a toxic relationship and they forced Bob McNair to choose between the two. You obviously know how that ended.
Oh lord.
Well, to me, it was quite obvious that a change had to be made at the general manager position. He had been working for the Texans a decade — since 2007 — and had yet to put together a team they could get past the divisional round in the playoffs. This was despite doing a solid job picking in the first round of his drafts.
