Clowney has been a hot topic for Houston Texans GM Brian Gaine, this site, and across the football

world this offseason. He is a dynamic pass rusher who can get after the passer like no other. Stopping the run? Already in his repertoire under “excellent”. Want him to break back in coverage? Well, he can do that too. Clowney is the versatile chess piece all defensive coordinators crave. Clowney can do it all.

New Titans head coach, Mike Vrabel, used Clowney all over the field this past season. Vrabel had Clowney line up a OLB, inside DE, outside DE, DT, NT, and even MLB. He played EV-ER-Y-WHERE, save for the secondary. When you have a player like that, you gotta lock him up.

So where does Clowney want to be?

Per Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, he wants to be a member of the Houston Texans for life!

"Hopefully, they lock me in, I want to be here forever. It would be great, something I always dreamed of. I don’t want to leave this team. I’ve been here since the beginning. I want to stay here. I want to finish my career here, so I’m looking forward to that."

For the skeptical minds out there, I know, I know every player says this. Because, if they don’t they can go ahead and start walking out that door. However, this has been common language for Clowney. It has also been shared language with the team. Gaine has said, recently, that a deal for Clowney is “on the horizon.”

Next: Texans Should Trade for Ja'Wuan James

The Texans had the last scoring defense last year, locking Clowney up like he wants should help prevent that in the future. Clowney, with new additions Tyrann Mathieu and Aaron Colvin coupled with healthy seasons from JJ Watt and Whitney Mercilus could instantly catapult this unit back into the top 5. As I’ve stated before, this should be the next move the Houston Texans make, so keep an eye out for it!

GO TEXANS!
