19 – The Houston Rodeo should be a professional sport

Every time I go to the Rodeo, I always enjoy the competition. Whether it’s calf-roping or bull-riding, that’s what I love about the Rodeo aside from the carnival. However, I sometimes feel the guys they bring are good, but there are some bull riders that are professionals. Maybe I’m missing something here or maybe I still don’t know the process of selecting the riders and that’s my fault for not doing homework. But it would be cool to see the best riders come into town.

20 – Houston should have a hockey team.

Yes, I’m on board for Houston having a hockey team. I do believe Houston would be a good place for hockey to play in. The Dallas Stars need a Texas rival since it probably stinks being the only NHL team in Texas right now. But Houston misses the Aeros so badly that we need a new team. Maybe we can get a Stanley Cup and proudly proclaim ourselves even more of a championship city.

21 – Any Name Ideas?

I know that the Phoenix Coyotes and the Carolina Hurricanes were two teams considered for relocation. But I can’t see Houston sports hockey team being called the Coyotes or Hurricanes. We don’t want a name that reminds us of Harvey and how many coyotes are in Houston. So aside from the Houston Aeros, which I’m okay for keeping, my three team names for our hockey team would be.

  1. Sun Rays – Trying to keep the space theme with something hot in space
  2. Rescuers (I’ll sacrifice the name for my fantasy baseball team on this one.) – A tribute to everyone who helped one another during Harvey.
  3. Lonesome Doves – Perfect to honor one of the greatest mini-series ever.

22 – It’s time to remember the Houston Comets.

I swear, much like the Seattle SuperSonics, Houston sports has some players who haven’t had their jerseys retired and we should. Sheryl Swoopes, Tina Thompson, and Janeth Arcain should be honored high into the rafters.

Also, I think the Houston Comets should be in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. They set the standard for the WNBA for what it is today. Unfortunately, they are no longer in existence and that’s not right.  Thompson is currently a finalist to be enshrined into the HOF so we’ll see if she gets enough votes.

23 -Any movie featuring Hurricane Harvey must feature J.J. Watt and the Astros.

In case you don’t know, there is a movie about Hurricane Harvey made a small local production

company. I think that it’s a good idea. But since this a Houston sports site, we must include J.J.Watt and the Astros. We could win an Academy Award for this film. Hey, Kobe Bryant won one recently. So anything is possible. Here’s the entry I wrote in the past.

24 – Rudy Tomjanovich must be in the Hall of Fame.

I’ll keep this one short and sweet. A two-time NBA champion as a head coach who coached the U.S Basketball team to Olympic Gold. If he doesn’t get in the Hall of Fame this year or next, we riot.

25 – I need to get better as a Houston sports fan.

I’ve learned a lot about myself as a sports fan. Mostly, I learned that I have to embrace the moments more and not worry about the negative things that could potentially happen. If October made me learn that lesson, I know that I have to improve my emotions as a fan. I’m a diehard, but I know I can be okay with feeling optimistic. I think there are things as a sports fan that we can improve on. For starters, we can’t give up on our teams even when negativity takes over. Regardless of whether we win or lose, we know that we’ll see our team play again and hopefully win next time.

26 – There is no such thing as a World Series champion fan

Sadly, there is no such thing as a World Series champion fan. I wish there was because I would share the title with everyone here. I thought that we would dub ourselves as World Series champion fans. But sadly, we don’t get rings or are allowed to touch the trophy for the most part. The only thing we get is a banner hanging at Minute Maid Park forever. You know what? That’s ok because we are the champions, my friends.
