Houston Sports: Three thoughts about status that resonate with fans
Visualization: Philadelphia and Houston Sports identity crisis
If you may recall, I wrote down an article talking about my feelings as to why the ESPY Awards could snub the Astros.
I was stupid for writing that because as much as I do believe the Astros should and probably will get an award then, for either Best Team, Best Game, or Best Moment, I realize that it doesn’t matter because we won a championship. We probably won’t get enough respect. But then again, so will Philadelphia perhaps. But just like the Astros, the Eagles proved they naysayers wrong and they won the World Series and the Super Bowl.
That being said, there are some parallels between the Astros and the Eagles believe it or not. This is the hangover talking here.
Parallels
- The Astros and Eagles were both teams that started out strong and as true championship contenders.
- Both faced adversity with injury ordeals.
- Each team faced off against a nationally-recognized team that was perceived as the bad guys.
- The heroes of each championship were people that nobody expected to perform very well.
- Both teams won.
It sounds crazy comparing the NFL and the MLB. I mean, in today’s world, the Super Bowl outranks the World Series. Football certainly gets the love from everywhere, including those directly connected to Houston Sports. Both franchises deserve to win their championships after enduring title droughts.
It also helps that there are two celebrations.
Philadelphia’s epic trust fall.
Ah well, when you have two cities hungry for titles, you can do what you please.
So there’s one prong. Time for prong two in hangover mode.
