Although the Houston Texans ended with thud of a 4-12 record, it would’ve likely been an eventful, soft landing had Deshaun Watson had been healthy.  The rookie quarterback had some critics about his transition to the NFL and for the most part, he has proved them wrong.  Let’s take a look.

The Houston Texans have finally arrived into an era where they have a dominant, heady signal-caller to build around for long-term in Deshaun Watson.  I honestly did not know if we were able going to get that issue fixed because in a league that’s heavily-centered around commanding QB play, it’s the ingredient for success for contending teams.

So does Watson have what it takes to lead this team to a Super Bowl?  Absolutely and there’s no question about it.  Although I do have concerns about his health down the road as he has had surgery on both of his knees, I don’t think it will have much an effect moving forward.  He’s still quite young and still has a lot of ground to cover in terms of cementing his legacy, something that’s just beginning.

There were many doubters of Watson going into the this draft in terms of his transition to the

NFL.  Many were worried about his form, arm strength, his deep-ball accuracy and his ability remain congruent in a pro-style offense.

For the most part, he has taken care of business in the aforementioned.  Before he went down after Week 7, Watson was 13th in deep ball accuracy with him nailing his target 40 percent of the time.  Washington Redskins quarterback Alex Smith led the league in deep ball accuracy this season, with his percentage at 56.5.

This weekend, Watson voiced his opinion about his doubters this past weekend with Sports Illustrated while attending the Super Bowl festivities in Minneapolis

.  Take a look at this clip to see what he had to say.

He mentioned the 19 touchdowns he threw this past season with the Houston Texans, to which he was the league-leader for awhile even after he sustained his injury.  That goes to show you the potential of how great this guy is going to be.  He knew he’d be able to shush up his those who doubted his success and he’s ready to come roaring back into form in 2018.

I’m tremendously proud that we have him under center for at least the next decade and the organization’s modus operandi will be to build as many pieces as a possible around him.

Ladies and Gentlemen — you haven’t seen anything yet.

Watson, 22, passed for 1,699 yards while throwing 19 touchdowns to eight interceptions through seven games — six starts — in 2017.  He had a solid QBR of an 81.5.
