Houston Texans Rumors: Team cuts Sio Moore; 7 players out so far
The Houston Texans have begun their wave of roster cuts to get down to the required 53-man limit, cutting six guys so far.
The Houston Texans have until 3 p.m. CDT today to trim their roster from 90 players to 53 of them. This is different from past seasons where they could trim to 75 players after the third preseason game and now teams are just able to make one large cut — 37 players — to meet NFL guidelines.
It’s never an easy decision for the Houston Texans as this affects guys lives but it’s certainly a decision that has be made to the best of their ability. Not much happened in the name of roster cuts yesterday but there were a couple of notables.
According to the Chron’s Aaron Wilson, veteran linebacker Sio Moore was released from the Houston Texans roster. Back when I projected the 53-man roster last week, I had Moore on as I thought they were just stashing him for the regular season. But it turns out that he was injured — he didn’t get much action in the preseason — and just never had a chance to show what he had.
Moore will likely land on his feet quite easily as he’s been in the league for five seasons. He did not record any stats in the preseason.

Another notable cut was ReShaun Allen, a guy that I liked that flashed quite a bit in the preseason but I didn’t have him on my 53-man. He caught four balls for 43 yards during the aforementioned period and with his extreme athleticism and strength was able to get a ton of yardage. I wouldn’t even put Allen on the practice squad because I do see a team eventually signing this talent in the future.
But with the amount of tight ends we have and are already familiar with the system, there just wasn’t any room for Allen.
Defensive end Mike Catapano also was cut from the Texans — he’s quite the bruiser but the competition was stiff at his position — he was going up against guys like Christian Covington, Joel Heath, Brandon Dunn and Carlos Watkins — and I’m sure his history of injuries factored into decision. Just three seasons ago, he battled an gastrointestinal virus along with a concussion while with the Kansas City Chiefs.
He eventually was cut from the Chiefs and found work with the New York Jets where he appeared in 11 games over the course of two seasons, with last season riddled with injury. Catapano has been throughout a lot in his life and I certainly wish him nothing but the best as he continues to pursue his career as professional football player.

The Texans also made cuts to offensive lineman Erik Austell, wide receiver Marcus Leak, WR Dayon Pratt and safety Malik Smith which saw little action in the preseason and I had expected them to be cut.
We’ll find out more today in regard to how this will all shake out. Stay tuned!
