It’s cut day and the Houston Texans are busy trimming their roster down, while they’re doing that, they need to consider Pro-Bowler former Denver Broncos safety T.J. Ward.

We’re after the deadline at this moment and the news of the guys that have been cut by the Houston Texans will continue to trickle over the rest of the this afternoon.  It’s certainly interesting to know who the team will be high on to retain while we compare their decisions to our opinions.

The benefit of roster trimming is that diamond does drop in the laps of teams that have to fulfill a need.  This will certainly be the case with T.J. Ward.  After three largely notable seasons with the Denver Broncos — two of them where is was nominated to the Pro-Bowl — he has been cut and now has to find another home to play the game that he loves.

The Broncos are high on the combination of second-year player Will Parks and vet Jamal Carter to which the team feels comfortable in going with those guys moving forward.  In addition, veteran Darian Stewart and second-year safety Justin Simmons will be around to provide depth to their last line of defense.  This gave little wiggle room for T.J. and considering his seasoned status, he will definitely find work elsewhere.

Ward would make an incredible add here in Houston.  We’ve been hurting for depth at the safety position with Andre Hal and Corey Moore being the anchor to those positions thus far.  The rest of the unit has not yet been defined as all of the roster cuts have not been announced yet.  They are both extremely talented but a steady hand like Ward’s would be a perfect for the Houston Texans.

It would be similar to the role that Quintin Demps had when he returned for the second tour of duty with us.  He has now gone the Chicago Bears to continue his career but it goes to show how long one can go when there’s experience out at this important position.

There’s no evidence that Ward is losing a step and I’d love to him here.  His cost will be a little on the high side but the Texans have the cash — a little under $30 million — to do what they want.  Keep in mind that these big signings by the Texans that were announced recently were extensions, every one of those guys was already under contract for 2017 so the money is available to get Ward if they choose to do so.

So come on Rick, let’s make it happen so that we can have some sort of continuity with the loss of Demps.  We can only hope for the best.
