Houston Texans: J.J. Watt steps up for Hurricane Harvey relief
By Dan Shedd
The Houston Texans J.J. Watt has started an incredible effort as he feels compelled to do his part to help with the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.
First off, this will probably be the most emotional article I will ever write for FanSided and House of Houston, so it may it get a little dusty in here Houston Texans fans.
For the past seven days, Hurricane Harvey hit the city of Houston with unimaginable ferocity, impacting millions of Houstonians across the Houston region. Many families lost everything, having to start their lives completely over.
Some families even lost relatives in the epic flooding that hit our area. Even a police officer who was trying to report for duty, lost his life in the flood. By the numbers, it is the most significant flood event in U.S. history. I was glued to the local news channels like never before in utter disbelief of the devastation of my hometown. My hometown was hurting.
Despite all the pain and suffering I had witnessed, I was encouraged to see how many people who were able to put aside their differences and help those in need the most. In a time of division and hate, this was what the world needed to see. People helping people in their darkest hour. This is something this country needs more of in my opinion.
One of those helping people happens to be Houston Texans defensive end and Houston’s favorite football son, J.J. Watt. Watt announced his fundraising efforts via Twitter this past Sunday and the results have been nothing short of remarkable.
In fact, his fundraising efforts have gone so well that he has recently upped the ante, trying to top $10 million to go directly to help families in need. He will also be coordinating volunteer efforts to help give essential supplies to those in need around the Houston region.
If this doesn’t show you how much Watt cares for this city, then I don’t know what will. He may have been born in Wisconsin, but he has adopted Houston as his hometown and does everything he can to make the city a better place for all.
Watt didn’t have to do this, but he chose to because he truly loves the city of Houston and its people, whether he personally knows them or not.

Just another great reason to love the Houston Texans Watt, he’s a great player on the field, but an even better person off of it.
