Olajuwon jukes David Robinson

During the Houston Rockets second championship run where they became the lowest seeded team in NBA playoff history to win a championship and the only team to beat the teams with the four best records in the league (San Antonio Spurs, Utah Jazz, Phoenix Suns and Orlando Magic) to do so, it was against the team with the best record in the league that Hakeem The Dream made a statement.

Prior to game one of the 1995 Western Conference Finals, David Robinson had received the MVP award for the 1995 season. The very same award that had belonged to Hakeem Olajuwon the previous year.

Holding that ceremony before game one turned out to be a BIG mistake. I’m sure David Stern in no way was trying to motivate Hakeem and make David Robinson’s life harder that night (and the entire series) but that’s exactly what happened.

Hakeem spun David Robinson every which way and had him twisting more than a yoga instructor or a Chubby Checker enthusiast. While there were plenty of times in this game that Hakeem made David Robinson look foolish, the moment above is definitely the most memorable as he fakes once, and Robinson holds his ground after going for that initial fake multiple times earlier in the game, only to look even more foolish on the second fake and Hakeem making a third move for an easy lay-up leaving the MVP bamboozled and embarrassed in his wake.

This moment is the only one on our list that didn’t happen in the fourth quarter or overtime turning the tide of a game. But that’s just how good these series of fakes were. But now it’s time for those buzzer beaters and momentum changers!
