If the first game between the Astros and Rangers didn’t get the message about a turnaround in the rivalry this year, then the next game sure broke the Rangers’ hearts. We all remember the famous crying fan after a stunning late inning grand slam. Well if she were at this game, the weather report would’ve called for indoor flooding at Minute Maid Park.

But Astros fans wouldn’t care about flooding as their team stunned the Rangers with yet another come from behind victory. Somehow, the Rangers didn’t get the message from Oakland, Seattle, or Tampa about the Astros.

More from House of Houston

Well, the Rangers jumped to a 5-0 lead after four innings. But our heroes slowly made their way back thanks to a two-run homer by Jose Altuve in the fourth and a solo shot by a right-handed hitting Marwin Gonzalez in the fifth. The game remained the same until the eighth inning.

Carlos Beltran led off with a double, which was followed by an Altuve walk. After Carlos Correa went down swinging, Evan Gattis singled to load the bases. Yuli Gurriel popped up to make it two outs and bases loaded for a left-handed hitting Gonzalez. It seemed like an eternity, but the result was perfect.

Houston tacked on another run in the eighth and thank god they did. Those Rangers just would not go down without a fight as Nomar Mazara drilled a two-run shot to cut the lead to 8-7.  Fortunately, Will Harris got the job and struck out Carlos Gomez to end the game. Now where was that crying fan again?

#2 – May 29, 2017 – Astros 16, Twins 8

I did say as a requirement that there were no blowouts. But I think we all agree that this game is on the list for one reason only: IT’S THE MOTHER OF ALL COMEBACKS.

So we traveled to Minnesota to take on the Twins and we struck for two runs in the fourth inning. Good start boys, let’s keep up the momentum. Then the fifth inning comes and it’s a disaster. We gave up seven runs to fall behind 7-2. It’s ok! We can come back and win. We did it a few times before.

But in the seventh inning, Minnesota added a run on a solo shot by former Astro Robbie Grossman and it was 8-2. Now we got a problem. We’re down six runs going into the eighth inning. What chance do we have? Well…

Is 11 runs in the eighth inning okay with y’all? Well good because it was totally epic to hear the Astros score again and again. But wait, there’s more. The Astros scored three runs in the ninth inning to win 16-8. So this game went from a bad day for Houston to an epic comeback to somewhat of a blowout win. But 14 runs in two innings combined is great for any team. It just so happens that we got our fourteen in the late innings to win.

It also to a winning streak that would end up reaching 11 games.
