The Houston Astros had their 11-game winning streak snapped Tuesday night in Kansas City against the Royals, 9-7.

The streak ended on a swing from Mike Moustakas that scorched to right field and into the bleachers. The loss was an incredibly painful one for Houston Astros fans and players alike after the team blew a six run lead to the Royals.

The eighth inning in particular was where many could point to as the spot in the game where Houston Astros gave it away. Four runs scored that inning, tying the game at seven apiece.

Luckily for the Houston Astros this is far from the end of the world. With a 42-17 record and a 13 game lead in the AL West, this loss only hurts from a historical point of view.

A win tonight would have tied the Astros franchise record for consecutive wins in a season with the 1999 and 2004 teams. Speaking of the 2004 Astros, how about Carlos Beltran?

Beltran’s Big Game

Carlos Beltran had a two-run home run which put the Astros up by six runs in the fourth inning. However, in the third he scored on a single from Yuli Gurriel that reminded us all of 2004 Carlos Beltran.

The 40-year old Beltran made it from second base to home plate and made an athletic slide, reaching his hand out to the corner of the plate to avoid the tag and score the run. Unfortunately, Beltran’s efforts were not enough to beat the Royals.

Moving Forward

Believe it or not, there is a tomorrow for the Astros. They will play the Royals again, this time with Dallas Keuchel set to pitch. The Astros ace leads the American League in wins (9) and earned run average (1.67).

Next: Why the Astros bench needs to be utilized more

With Keuchel on the mound and the way the Astros hitters have been performing it would surprise very few to see them start yet another winning streak on Wednesday.

If there were to be one spot of concern for this team it would be the closer. Ken Giles has not looked too sharp in his recent appearances. With the trade deadline fast approaching we could potentially see the closer spot be the one to receive an upgrade.
