Houston Astros: Why the bench needs to be utilized more

While the Houston Astros have the best record in the entire league, their three most commonly benched players should actually be everyday starters!

There’s the old saying, “Don’t fix what isn’t broken.” After all, the Houston Astros do have the best record in all of Major League Baseball. Already, the spacemen are on pace for a season with well over 100 wins.

Skipper A.J. Hinch has plenty of weapons in his baseball arsenal. From top to bottom, the entire 25-man roster possess both talent and poise. Whether it’s pitching or hitting, nearly all players are getting the job done.

Despite this, 3 particular players on the roster are still forced into the role of backups, or bench players. Those three include Marwin Gonzalez, Evan Gattis and Jake Marisnick.

It is true that a lineup with this much talent is bound to have good players riding the pine. Many have even said that it is a good problem for someone like Hinch to have.

However, if recent numbers a third of the way through the season are any indication, it shouldn’t even be a problem in the first place!
