Houston Rockets’ star James Harden will be playing defense in a court of law, answering to assault allegations made by Moses Malone Jr.

Houston Rockets’ guard James Harden has been subpoenaed to testify in court, in relation to an assault against Moses Malone Jr., the son of NBA Hall-of-Famer Moses Malone. Harden, who was not present when the alleged assault took place, has yet to publicly comment on the situation. He’ll give a deposition on December 15.

According to ABC 13 News, Malone Jr. says he was assaulted by members of Harden’s entourage at V Live nightclub in Houston in June. Malone Jr. was beaten and robbed, at gunpoint, of $15,000 in jewelry.

Four men, Deavion Lewis, Oscar Wattell, Kavon Boutte and Darian Blount were arrested for their roles in the attack.

The beef stemmed from a Facebook post Malone Jr. made about Harden’s summer basketball camp. Malone Jr. felt the amount of money Harden was charging ($249) limited access for children from low-income families.

Malone Jr. also claims V Live security allowed the assault to take place. Carl A. Moore, who is representing V Live in this matter, told ABC-13 the club did no such thing.

More from Houston Rockets

“I don’t believe Mr. Harden was at the club, and I definitely don’t believe he had anything to do with an attack on Mr. Malone,” he said. “And so the club’s position is that Mr. Malone is a regular of the club. We would have done everything we could to make sure he was safe.”

It’s an ugly situation, all the way around. Harden has performed brilliantly to start the 2016-2017 NBA season but it’s hard to look past the seriousness of the charges. Harden and the Rockets (5-4) host the Philadephia 76ers (1-8) tonight at the Toyota Center.
